Dear Mrs. McKarns,

I never considered journalism to be a potential interest of mine until I went to the newspaper meetings in the beginning of seventh grade. One of the few benefits of middle school for me has been an increased interest and skill in writing, and The T Bolt Times opened it up to the art of journalism. Thank you for the days at newspaper when it was just you, Samantha, and me and wrote the entire newspaper while you gave us lessons on the world of journalism. They seriously don’t pay you enough for this.

Dear Samantha,

Newspaper is the root of our friendship, which is a pretty great thing. We’ll always have a terrifyingly strong connection to Shrek the Halls, all because of a poll on this very website. Last year, it was really just the two of us writing the newspaper for second semester. I’ll never forget the hilarious exchange of pure shock when we walked into Mrs. McKarns room for the first newspaper meeting this year and it was filled with small and impressionable journalist children. Please do not drop journalism next year. Please.

Dear Staff,

All of you are seventh graders, other than Tanner, so you will carry on the T Bolt Times without us. Treasure every letter you publish on this site, because someday it’ll be gone and you’ll remember this for having all the embarrassing writing you did from middle school. Hopefully the site will continue to thrive* in your hands, and please treat the incoming journalists with respect because if I had to go all year without blowing up then you do too. Word of advice: use your eighth grade year to find your voice in the world of journalism. In the natural order of the world, authority comes with age. Benefit from that, because you’ll be able to write beyond the realm of assignments and explore society through words. Good luck!

Sincerely,

Emily Swanson
