On October 17, 2018, our school, Northmont Middle School, participated in a full-scale safety drill. The drill consisted of 2 disaster training drills which were active shooter and evacuation drills. The training day also had basic first aid and the drill lasted all day. The drill was to prepare the school in case of an unlikely disaster. The drill taught students what to do in different scenarios to keep themselves and others safe. Mrs. Henderson, one of the teachers at our school said, “I thought it was fine. I wasn’t really looking forward to it because I don’t like the fact that it is a reality for our kids, but I thought that it was well handled well and a lot of people took it as a learning experience, which is what it was intended as.” I agree with Mrs. Henderson because it is a cruel reality that we have to live with. The safety day was learning experience and taught many students important information. The middle school is also going to have more safety training later this year by Officer Hamlin and more first aid training by Premier Health.
