The week of April 1, Northmont Middle School had Solo and Ensemble Competition. Students in band who either choose to or if they take private lessons, have to learn a new piece of music and play it in front of a judge. Students can play in a group (ensemble), or play alone (solo). If they chose to do a solo they get to play with an accompanist. Students are rated on a 1-5 scale, 1 being the best score you can get and 5 being the worst. If students get a 1 they automatically get 100 arts credits, and if they get a 2 they get 50 art credits. This was a fun event that can grow band students skills, and give them a better look at what auditions are like going into high school.
