Cross+Country+GWOC

The season started in early July and ended October 17 at the 2020 GWOC cross country championships. Many of the Northmont runners got personal best times and both teams overall did well. Both the boys and girls teams placed 5th out of 8 teams, with a solid ending to the season. Both the boys and girls teams also had three medalists in the two races. For the girls Jazlen Simpson placed 9th and earned a silver medal, and twins Briana and Corissa pressel placed 17th and 18th and earned bronze medals. Leading the boys was Ethan Berning in 15th place, just missing out on silver but securing a bronze and right behind him were Stephen Vanwinkle and Joe Costello with Joe placing 17th and getting a bronze medal and Stephen placing 19th and also getting bronze. Here’s what Coach Lori Barnes had to say about the 2020 season-“I’m so glad we got the opportunity to have a season despite everything that’s going on! Runners worked hard to train and improve from June through the GWOC meet in October! I’m proud of how far they came during the season. We had a lot of improvements and personal records through the season! I look forward to coaching the 7th graders again next year and wish the 8th graders good luck at the high school.” Here is what 8th grader Joe Costello had to say about the season-“Our team was great and we had splendid season with the guys.
